ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE In a color television system including a plurality of index signal generating elements located outside an image area of an electron-impinged target surface in registry with successive color stripes located within the image area, the index signal is generated at the start of each raster scan and pulse repetition rate demodulated into a voltage signal representing the instantaneous speed of the electron beam scanning across the target surface. The voltage signal is stored in a charge transfer device for an interval of a subsequent raster and retrieved at the start of each horizontal trace for purposes of compensating for non-linearities in the performance of beam deflection systems.
