- 1 - Abstract: An indexable cutting insert used for cutting machine parts and having a polygonal shape includes a plurality of nose portions formed at vertices of the polygonal shape. A cutting edge is formed between neighboring nose portions, and a land portion is formed inside the cutting edge. A dimple is provided in the vicinity of each nose portion and the land portion, inside each nose portion. The cutting edge is inclined upwardly away from each nose portion. The arrangement enables the insert to be used efficiently over a wide range of cutting processes from rough cutting to finish cutting.
