Abstract A system for indexing rotary motion of a shaft such as a turret shaft of a turret lathe, wherein a number of drive plates of regular polygonal outline are affixed radially on the shaft in staggered serial arrangement. A corresponding plurality of pistons are aligned with the radial edges of the drive plates and engage the radial edges of the plates upon advancement, so as to rotate the shaft a measured amount to the next index position. Apparatus for driving the pistons in sequence such that only one piston is advanced while the previously advanced piston is retracted is also disclosed.
