In order to develop further a device (100) for the inflation of, more particularly, a container or a floating body of an item of lifesaving equipment with compressed gas from a compressed gas container (11) sealed with the aid of a diaphragm (14) which, within the region of the container neck (12), possesses an external thread (13) and can be screwed, with the container neck (12), into a receiving aperture (15) in a housing (10), which is provided with a corresponding internal thread (16) and whose gas content is released by opening the diaphragm (14) with the aid of an opening striker (27) disposed in the housing (10), which can be moved against the diaphragm by means of a hand lever (33, 49) and/or by the force of a spring (51) in such a way that an indicating means is provided which indicates the screwing-in state of the compressed gas container, i.e. which indicates whether the compressed ags container is screwed in so far into the receiving aperture that a reliable operation of the device is guaranteed, it is proposed that an indicating part (18;118;218;318) that is displaceably guided in the housing (10), when the compressed gas container (11) is screwed into the receiving aperture (15) of the housing (10), can be displaced by the compressed gas container (11) from an initiasl position and that the indicating part (18;118;218;318) is supported by a spring element (25;125;225;325) on the housing (10) against a displacement from the initial position.
