The invention relates to indicator ink compositions that contain a water-based dispersion of a phenol-formaldehyde resin, at least one colorant and an amine-terminated catalyst. These indicator ink compositions are fixed to a surface, such as by drying, and respond to specific conditions of time, temperature, humidity, pressure and the presence or absence of certain chemicals by changing color. Compositions provide a means for detecting exposure to a predetermined condition and can be fixed or otherwise attached tonearly any article or designed into patterns on materials. Exposure of the indicator ink to the specific condition, the indicator ink provides a permanent detectable record of the event. Further, by varying the amount of amine-terminated catalyst in the formulation, the specific conditions at which the indicator composition will change color can be altered. Such compositions are specifically useful for determining the effectiveness of a sterilization process.
L'invention concerne des compositions d'encres indicatrices contenant une dispersion aqueuse d'une résine phénol-formaldéhyde, au moins un colorant et un catalyseur à terminaison amine. Lesdites compositions sont fixées sur une surface, par exemple par séchage, et réagissent à des conditions spécifiques de temps, de température, d'humidité, de pression ainsi qu'à la présence ou à l'absence de certains produits chimiques en changeant de couleur. Elles permettent de détecter l'exposition à une condition prédéterminée et peuvent être fixées ou attachées d'une autre manière sur pratiquement n'importe quel objet, ou disposées en motifs sur des matériaux. Exposée à ladite condition spécifique, l'encre indicatrice offre une trace décelable et permanente de l'événement. En outre, en faisant varier la quantité de catalyseur à terminaison amine dans la formulation, on peut modifier les conditions spécifiques dans lesquelles la composition indicatrice change de couleur. De telles compositions sont spécialement utiles pour déterminer l'efficacité d'un procédé de stérilisation.
