ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A carpet or like covering is fastened to a floor or like support surface by a sheet comprising a thermo- fusible material interposed between the carpet and floor; a field of vibrations suitable for heating the thermo- fusible material is applied to at least one square decimeter the exposed face of the carpet and then moved to other regions of the carpet until substantially all of the carpet is bonded to the floor, the field being such that the carpet is undamaged by it.
