Abstract of the Disclosure The present invention relates to an induction type positioning system which accurately stops a movable part without any contact and holds it in the stop position. The invention can be used for positioning the movable part of a linear motor. The invention comprises a primary core consisting of a main pole carrying a single phase AC magnetic field generation coil, an auxiliary pole connected thereto and a conductive plate which relatively moves against this primary core, thereby generating a holding force for suppressing the relative movement between the primary core and conductive plate by means of an eddy current, This eddy current is induced in the conductive plate by the field generated by the main pole at the position where the conductive plate is placed on the auxiliary pole and simultaneously the edge of the conductive plate is placed on the main pole, and the eddy current induced in the conductive plate by the field generated from the auxiliary pole.
