An unproved industrial high intensity burner for the burning of a fuel in an oxygen-containing gas, said burner comprising (i) a combustion block having inner side wall portions and an inner bottom portion which define a combustion chamber within which said fuel is burned; said bottom portion further defining an oxygen-containing gas inlet passage through which said gas enters said chamber; (ii) a fuel nozzle disposed within said passage by which fuel is injected into said chamber; (iii) a windbox chamber in communication with said passage from which air enters said passage; the improvement comprising said passage having a gas inlet defined by a first bottom portion of said inner bottom portion and a gas outlet defined by a second bottom portion of said inner bottom portion wherein at least one of said first and said second bottom portions are convex shaped. The burner provides improved burner efficiency.
