TITLE OF THE INVENTION INDUSTRIAL TECHNIQUE ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A system for controlling machine tool operation is dis- closed. This system accepts an instruction directly in the form of a Boolean algebra expression. The expression is converted to an output signal through the temporary retention of a cumulative provisional result that reflects the progressive status of a term- by-successive term evaluation of the instruction. This technique is achieved, for example, through a "last-in, first out" memory store. A final "truth value", i.e., the value in the cumulative sequence that immediately precedes an equality sign or other equivalent algebraic operator, reflects the actual status of some feature of the machine tool. The next step in the operation of the tool is then taken in response to the contrast between the truth value and the specific machine response options character- ized by the expression on the opposite side of the equality sign. -1-
