An inert anode for the electrolytic production of metals such as aluminum is disclosed. The inert anode includes a ceramic oxide material preferably made from NiO, Fe2O3 and ZnO. The inert anode composition may be of the formula Ni x Fe2y Zn2O(3y+x+z)~.delta.), where x is from 0.2 to 0.99, y is from 0.0001 to 0.8, z is from 0.0001 to 0.3, and .delta. is from 0 to 0.3. The inert anode may optionally include other oxides and/or at least one metal phase, such as Cu, Ag, Pd, Pt, Au, Rh, Ru, Ir and/or Os. The Ni-Fe-Zn-O ceramic material exhibits very low solubility in Hall cell baths used to produce aluminum.

L'invention concerne une anode inerte servant à la production électrolytique de métaux tels que l'aluminium. Cette anode inerte comprend une matière d'oxyde céramique, de préférence, fabriquée à partir de NiO, de Fe2O3 et de ZnO. La composition de l'anode inerte peut présenter la formule suivante: NixFe2yZnzO(3y+x+z)+/- delta ), dans laquelle x est compris entre 0,2 et 0,99, y est compris entre 0,0001 et 0,8, z est compris entre 0,0001 et 0,3, et delta est compris entre 0 et 0,3. Cette anode inerte peut comprendre facultativement d'autres oxydes et/ou au moins une phase métallique, tels que Cu, Ag, Pd, Pt, Au, Rh, Ru, Ir et/ou Os. La matière Ni-Fe-Zn-O céramique présente une solubilité très basse dans les bains de cellules Hall permettant de produire de l'aluminium.
