INFANT CARRIER - DISPOSABLE Abstract of the Disclosure An infant carrier which has a bed inclined in a shell; during a collision the bed moves in response to the inertial load of an infant to a more upright position to more uniformly load the infant and protect its head from undue load as well as to keep the infant in the carrier. The carrier assembles from two planar precut preforms of cardboard. The first preform folds into a three dimensional shell with a hood at its upper end, a cowl at its lower end and an opening in the middle. The second preform forms the bed defined by a back and a foot at an oblique angle to each other. The top of the back holds a compound flap of the hood and two side flaps from side panels of the shell in place. The foot extends into the cowl and bears on a bottom of the shell. Support wings of the bed between the shell and the bed progres- sively crush during an accident to absorb energy; the bed back also crushes so that an infant moves with its back crushing the bed back preferentially at its base from an inclined position to a more vertical position in the carrier, avoiding undue load on the head and sliding out of the carrier. Wings from the side panels fold inside the panels to form rigid, double-thickness side walls and to present smooth exposed edges. Bottom flaps from the side panels, from a back wall of the shell, and from a front panel of the cowl overlap and are held together by tabs extending through registered slots. Overlapping front panels at the anterior ends of the side panels form a front wall of the cowl. Ears of one front panel extend into slots of the other. A lap belt catch on an inclined surface of the cowl accepts the lap belt of a vehicle to hold the carrier firmly in place with the carrier facing rearwardly with respect to vehicle orientation.
