A cooking appliance includes a cooktop having at least one heating zone having first and second heating elements and a control element for setting a desired cooking temperature for the heating zone. When the control element is rotated in a first direction, only the first heating element will be activated and; when rotated in a second direction, both the first and second heating elements are activated. The control element includes a variable resistor that changes resistance as the control element is rotated through nearly 360° to alter the operational state of the heating element(s). A controller senses the change in resistance and determines in which direction the control element is rotated so as to activate the appropriate heating element(s).
Appareil de cuisson comportant une surface de cuisson munie d'au moins une zone chauffante avec un premier et un second éléments chauffants, et d'un élément de contrôle pour le réglage de la température de cuisson désirée pour la zone de chauffage. Lorsque l'élément de contrôle est tourné dans une première direction, seul le premier élément chauffant est mis sous tension; lorsque le même élément de contrôle est tourné dans une seconde direction, les deux éléments chauffants sont mis sous tension. L'élément de contrôle comprend une résistance variable qui modifie la résistance à mesure que l'élément de contrôle tourne sur presque 360 degrés pour changer l'état de fonctionnement du ou des éléments chauffants. Un contrôleur décèle la variation de résistance et détermine dans la direction de rotation de l'élément de contrôle, afin de mettre sous tension le ou les éléments chauffants appropriés.
