An inflatable bag (10) for packaging and protecting an object (70) received within the bag, comprises a web of a foil material defining an elongated configuration having a first set of opposite parallel edges (33, 35). The web is folded into a four-ply assembly (12, 14, 16, 18) folded transversely relative to the edges (33, 35) and defining four foil layers of substantially identical shape. The object (70) to be introduced into the inner chamber through the first opening (20).
