An inflatable restraint apparatus for an automotive vehicle includes an air bag deployment door (512) formed in a trim panel (514). The outer surface of the door (512) has an area of 5 in2 to 35 in2 (32.3 cm2 to 225.8 cm2) and at least a portion of the door perimeter comprises a frangible marginal edge (516). The frangible marginal edge (516) includes a frangible length, and at least 20 % of the frangible length is non-linear. The apparatus also includes a dispenser (518) containing an air bag (522) having a volume of at least 90 liters. The air bag dispenser has an air bag receptacle containing an air bag and an inflator receptacle containing an inflator (544).
