There is provided a method of providing a user control panel to a network user, the method being performed at a network management system, the method comprising: establishing a network connection between a user computer and a network management system; transmitting first application data to the user computer, the first application data configured to cause the user computer to display a first control panel interface, the first application data further configured to cause the user computer to periodically transmit data packets to the network management system, the data packets indicating that the control panel interface is present on the user computer; determining, on a periodic basis, whether the network management system has received at least one of the data packets within a predetermined amount of time; and if at least one of the data packets is not received within the predetermined amount of time, sending second application data to the user computer, the second application data configured to cause the user computer to display a second control panel interface, the second application data further configured to cause the user computer to periodically transmit data packets to the network management system, the data packets indicating that the control panel interface is present on the user computer.
