A services provision system, for use in providing information services over one or more communications networks, has a software infrastructure divided into domains (101, 103, 104, 106). Each domain has an intelligent software agent (102, 107, 109, 110) and this community of agents sits in a computing environment represented in each domain by a DPE kernel (105). The community of agents co-operates to provide service and service management functionality to a user. At least one of the agents (102, 107, 109, 110) is reconfigurable to change the functionality the system makes available. Reconfigurability is based on the use of a plurality of reusable software modules, the agent reconfiguring by selecting a new combination of modules. The software modules themselves incorporate rules, or policies, which determine process steps offered by the modules at run-time. These policies are external to the modules and may be loaded at run-time, allowing dynamic modification to functionality of the system. The system as a whole offers functionality associated with using services, providing them and managing them and the reconfigurability allows it to offer the different types of functionality in an efficient way. It also allows access control to functionality at different levels with particularly good security against fraudulent use.
La présente invention concerne un système de fourniture de services utilisable pour la fourniture de services d'informations sur un ou plusieurs réseaux, ledit système comportant une infrastructure logicielle divisée en domaines (101, 103, 104, 106). Chaque domaine est pourvu d'un agent logiciel intelligent (102, 107, 109, 110), cette communauté d'agents siégeant dans un environnement informatique représenté au niveau de chaque domaine par un noyau d'environnement de traitement distribué (105). Les agents de cette communauté coopèrent de façon à fournir à un utilisateur un service et des fonctionnalités de gestion de service. L'un au moins des agents (102, 107, 109, 110) est reconfigurable de façon à modifier la fonctionnalité que le système met à disposition. La reconfigurabilité repose sur le recours à une pluralité de modules logiciels réutilisables, l'agent effectuant la reconfiguration par sélection d'une nouvelle combinaison de modules. Les modules logiciels proprement dits contiennent des règles ou des politiques qui déterminent les activités de processus offertes par les modules lors de l'exécution. Ces politiques sont externes aux modules et peuvent être chargées lors de l'exécution, ce qui permet de modifier dynamiquement la fonctionnalité du système. Dans sa globalité, le système offre une fonctionnalité s'associant avec l'utilisation des services, leur fourniture et leur gestion. Cette reconfigurabilité permet au système d'offrir efficacement différents types de fonctionnalités. Ce système autorise également le contrôle d'accès aux fonctionnalités à différents niveaux avec une sécurité particulièrement bonne contre l'utilisation frauduleuse.
