ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An information storage and retrieval system is disclosed in which one or more types and sizes of characters may be used concurrently, such as Roman and Chinese characters. Characters and their attributes are stored in a means for storing characters and a means for storing attributes. Lines of characters may be interchanged, scrolled, or panned without copying the characters. This system inputs information from and outputs information to other, outside components.
