ABSTRACT INFRARED AFOCAL REFRACTOR TELESCOPE An infrared afocal refractor telescope comprises a zoom system , a collecting system and an eyepiece system arranged in a common optical axis . The zoom system is formed by a fixed objective lens component and by a first lens component mounted on a carriage and by a second lens component mounted on a carriage , the carriages being separately movable along the optical axis . The movable lens components of the zoom system each have the same sign of optical power and the variation in telescope magnification provided by selective positioning of the carriages is at least 5:1 in range. The locus of movement of each of the two movable lens components renders the telescope athermalised.
