The invention relates to a propellent-free inhalation device having a supply of medicinal substance to be inhaled, a manually operable metering device for removing a given dose of the medicinal substance for the inhalation process and having a mouthpiece for actively breathing in and an air space for distributing the particular dose of medicinal substance in the air stream. In inhalers of this kind it is important that the dose of medicinal substance to be inhaled should be highly reproducible. In order to solve this problem the invention proposes a holder in which the supply of medicinal substance is not in powder form, as in the known embodiments, but is contained in solidified form in a given geometric structure (tablet). An abrasion device is associated with this holder in order to abrade the given dose mechanically.
