The use of nitrogen monoxide as a drug in gaseous form, in order to prevent or to combat inflammatory reactions as a result of extracorporeal blood circulation during operations on humans or animals. This gaseous medicine is preferably administered to the person or to the animal by inhalation through oral or nasal intubation, during at least one part of the preoperative preparation phase, during the operation, and during a portion of the post-operative recuperation phase. Preferably, the drug should be administered in concentrations of 0.5 ppm and 80 ppm. The use of nitrogen monoxide also aids in maintaining renal, pulmonary, hepatic and neurological function following extracorporeal blood circulation, and produces a relaxing effect on the left ventricle of the heart muscle.
Utilisation de monoxyde d'azote en tant que médicament gazeux destiné à prévenir ou à lutter contre les réactions inflammatoires consécutives à une circulation sanguine extracorporelle chez l'homme ou l'animal. Préférablement, le médicament gazeux est inhalé et est administré à l'homme ou à l'animal par intubation orale ou nasale et au moins durant une partie de la phase de préparation opératoire, durant la phase opération et durant une partie de la phase de récupération post-opératoire. Aussi préférablement, le médicament sera administré à une concentration de 0.5 et 80 ppm. L'utilisation du monoxyde d'azote est aussi destinée à préserver les fonctions rénales, pulmonaires, hépatiques et neurologiques suite à la circulation sanguine extracorporelle et à produire un effet relaxant au niveau du ventricule gauche du muscle cardiaque.
