ABSTRACT OF THE INVENTION A method for inhibiting or preventing the formation of scale on surfaces in contact with an aqueous system comprising adding to the system a polyepoxysuccinic acid having the formula Image wherein n is from 3 to 40, and wherein the polyepoxy- succinic acid is added in an amount effective to inhibit scale formation.
