The present invention relates to treatments for reducing degradation of connective tissue matrix protein components, and more particularly to the use of bisphosphonates in the treatment or prophylaxis of connective tissue degradation disorders or extracellular protein degradation disorders in mammals, especially humans. Specific methods and compositions for the therapeutic or, prophylactic treatment of an excessive degradation of connective tissue matrix protein components in mammals are disclosed comprising administering to said mammal a bisphosphonate in an amount which is effective in reducing the matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) activity in said mammal.
La présente invention concerne des traitements pour diminuer la dégradation des composants protéiniques de la matrice des tissus conjonctifs et, plus particulièrement, l'utilisation de bisphosphonates pour le traitement ou la prévention d'une dégradation pathologique des tissus conjonctifs ou d'une dégradation pathologique des protéines extracellulaires chez les mammifères et, en particulier, chez l'homme. On décrit des compositions et des procédés spéciaux permettant le traitement ou la prévention d'une dégradation excessive des composants protéiniques de la matrice des tissus conjonctifs chez les mammifères, consistant à administrer à ces mammifères un bisphosphonate en une quantité suffisante pour diminuer l'activité des métalloprotéinases de la matrice des tissus conjonctifs, chez ledit mammifère.
