Abstract: Method, composition and article of manufacture to inhibit the staining of water-contacting surfaces, such as those in a toilet bowl, which is caused by manganese present in household water in the presence of an oxidiz- ing material. Manganese staining is inhibited by supply- ing to the water 0.05 ppm to 10 ppm of a glassy phosphate having the formula MO(MPO3)nM wherein M is sodium or potassium and n is an integer of from about 6 to about 21.
