Disclosed is a composition of inhomogeneous silicas comprising of at least two silica fractions; wherein the silica of the invention has a specified range of BET surface area; CTAB surface area and DBP absorption data. The silica can be used as carrier material or as support for catalytically active substances. Disclosed further is a process for the preparation of novel silica compositions.
