ABSTRACT The feeder pipe is provided with a system of blind bores gas conductively interconnected and an inert gas is fed to this system to traverse the gas permeable material of which the pipe is made and emerge from surfaces in contact with molten steel thereby to prevent the precipitation of deposits, particularly on the inside surface of the pipe, but also on the outside surface thereof where submerged in the bath of molten steel.
