ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The present invention provides in a two-stage injection molding unit, a vertical shut-off valve for controlling the flow of a moldable material between the screw and the injection chamber of the molding unit, comprising: a valve body mounted on the unit, the body having a bore in communication with the screw and the injection chamber, a valve plunger slidably sup- ported on the body, the plunger being movable between a first position and a second position, to close and open, respectively, communication between the screw and the injection chamber, means for moving the plunger between the first and second positions, and wherein when the valve is in the first position and the screw is overspun, the valve prevents moldable material from entering the screw-and locks the moldable material in the injection chamber.
