Injection molding apparatus comprises a mold with a first part having a number of cavities and a second part having a number of cores. In the closed condition of the mold the cores reach into the cavities for forming an injection molding cavity. In an open position of the mold the cores are entirely clear of the cavities. One mold part has an additional set of cores or cavities which can cooperate with corresponding receiving means of a robot during the time when the other set of cores or cavities cooperate with the other mold part for injection molding the articles. The mold part comprising the additional set of cores or cavities is movable in such a manner that the set of cores or cavities during successive injection molding cycles alternately cooperate with the other mold part and with a robot. Also disclosed is a method for operating such an injection molding apparatus.
