ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An improved tuyere for the injection of liquid fuels into a shaft furnace includes a diffuser having a shape defined by a generatrix which is a polygonal line approximating a convex shape and having at least two segments, which segments form respective angles with the axis of the tuyere which increase from the neck towards the nose of the tuyere (e.g. preferably between 0 to 3° at the neck to 5 to 15° at the nose), the angles and the length of the diffuser being such that a blast through the neck of Mach 0.3 to 1 is reduced to conventional furnaces blown velocities at the nose of the tuyere, and the diffuser avoids recirculation streams of such a blast passing therethrough.
