An ink cartridge for an ink jet printer has a light detecting part comprising a first triangular prism and a second triangular prism which are made of transparent materials. The first triangular prism and the second triangular prism are used to receive, reflect or refract light emitted from a light emitting element located on the printer. Two side faces of the second triangular prism are contacted with ink inside the ink cartridge. When the ink cartridge provided with ink is mounted onto the printer, the light emitted from the light emitting element is incident into the ink after the light has undergone total reflection by the first triangular prism and refraction by the second triangular prism, so the light is not received by a light receiving element located on the printer. When the ink is used up, the emitted light is undergone total reflection by the second triangular prism and reflection by the first triangular prism, then reflected to the light receiving element. It is detected that the ink has been used up at that time.
La présente invention se rapporte à une cartouche d'encre destinée à une imprimante à jet d'encre comportant une partie de détection de lumière comprenant un premier prisme triangulaire et un second prisme triangulaire qui sont composés de matériaux transparents. Le premier prisme triangulaire et le second prisme triangulaire sont utilisés pour recevoir, réfléchir ou réfracter la lumière émise par un élément électroluminescent situé sur l'imprimante. Deux faces latérales du second prisme triangulaire sont en contact avec l'entre qui se trouve à l'intérieur de la cartouche d'encre. C'est à ce moment-là qu'on détecte que l'encre est épuisée.
