ABSTRACT An ink jet recording head in which a plurality of ink nozzles are juxtaposed on a single silicon substrate to provide a Kaiser on-demand type ink jet recording head. The ink flow paths are formed in a surface of the substrate by dry plasma etching and a glass plate is electrostatically bonded onto that surface as a vibrating plate. The surfaces of the ink flow paths are cleaned using an alkali solution, and a water repelling film is formed around the ink jetting outlets. Notch portions, each having a sectional area larger than the ink nozzle, may also be formed on the end surface between adjacent ink jetting outlets. A heater may also be positioned on a surface of the substrate on which the ink nozzles are arranged. In addition, a releasable cartridge accommodating both the recording head and an ink tank for supplying the ink in a single container may be formed and a cap may be provided at a front portion of the cartridge, the cap being capable of covering the ink jetting outlets by rotation. - 30 -
