An ink-jet recording sheet with improved print quality is provided by a method comprising: a) providing a recording sheet substrate, b) forming a sizing composition comprising an aqueous dispersion of a hydrophobic starch ester or ether derivative wherein the ester or ether substituent comprises a saturated or unsaturated hydrocarbon chain of 6 to 22 carbon atoms and the starch containing sizing composition has a Brookfield viscosity of at least 50 cps at 65°C. c) applying said sizing composition to said recording sheet substrate, and d) drying said substrate to provide an ink-jet recording sheet.
