An inking device for a postage meter in a high speed mailing machine is disclosed in which the inking device has an ink reservoir containing an ink pad, and a cover member to secure the ink pad in the reservoir. The reservoir is formed as a generally rectangular tray having a flat bottom wall and upstanding front, rear and side walls, and includes a plurality of elongate upstanding ribs covering most of the area of the bottom wall for supporting an ink pad and for defining ink flow channels between the ribs. There are also relatively short upstanding ribs disposed around the other sides of the tray, and all of the ribs have upwardly inclined portions adjacent the front, rear and side walls against which a cover member presses to compress that portion of the ink pad which overlies the inclined portions of the ribs. The inclined portions also include raised protrusions thereon to increase the compression of the ink pad for a more effective seal and also to prevent the edge portions of the ink pad from creeping down the inclined portions of the ribs during continuous operation of the mailing machine.
Dispositif d'encrage pour une affranchisseuse dans une machine de traitement du courrier haute vitesse dans lequel le dispositif d'encrage comporte un réservoir d'encre équipé d'un tampon encreur qui est maintenu dans ledit réservoir à l'aide d'un couvercle. Le réservoir est généralement constitué d'un plateau rectangulaire ayant un fond plat avec une bordure avant et des parois arrière et de côté; la majeure partie du fond comporte des nervures sur lesquelles repose le tampon encreur et disposées de façon à former des canaux d'écoulement pour l'encre entre les nervures. Il y a aussi des nervures relativement courtes qui bordent les autres côtés du plateau et toutes ces nervures ayant une partie inclinée vers le haut sont adjacentes aux parois avant, arrière et des côtés contre lesquelles un couvercle exerce une pression afin de comprimer une partie du tampon encreur qui repose sur les parties inclinées des nervures. Les parties inclinées comportent aussi des saillies pour augmenter la compression exercée sur le tampon encreur afin d'obtenir un scellé plus efficace et aussi pour empêcher les bords du tampon encreur de déborder sur les parties inclinées des nervures pendant le fonctionnement continu de la machine de traitement du courrier.
