When taking part in the sport of in-line roller skating, it is known that the conventional way in which to brake is to press down, against the ground, a brake block fitted at the rear of one of the skates. The skater performs this action by raising the front of his foot in order then to press his heel towards the ground. It is, however, very difficult for the skater to keep the front of his foot in a raised position when exerting this pressure, the latter overhanging with respect to the brake block. The skater likewise finds it difficult to maintain balance. Braking is thus reduced. The present invention comprises a braking system for in-line roller skates that enables the skater to bear down easily, with his entire weight, on grips connected to brake blocks that have the special feature that they pivot downwards in order to produce effective braking. Said grips, attached to the rear part of the boot of each skate, forces the skater, as the latter takes hold of the grips, to crouch down. The skater therefore lowers his centre of gravity and thus is properly in control of his balance during braking.
