An inner combustion chamber, for use in combination with a burner, comprising an internal burn chamber, an inlet means for the introduction of an ignited fuel into the burn chamber, and an outlet means from the burn chamber for the release of expanded gases generated from combustion within the burn chamber, the arrangement being such that the ignited fuel is retained and circulated within the burn chamber by turbulent movement created by the impact and deflection of the flames of the ignited fuel upon the walls of the burn chamber. The combustion chamber having particular utility as a heat source and for the destruction of hazardous materials such as chemicals and hospital wastes.
