A method for inoculating molten iron. The method comprises passing the molten iron through a filter assembly at an approach velocity of about 1 to about 60 cm/sec. The filter assembly comprises a filter element and an inoculation pellet in contact with the filter element. The pellet has an inoculant dissolution rate of at least 1 mg/sec. to no more than 320 mg/sec. and comprises about 40-99.9%, by weight, carrier comprising ferrosilicon. The pellet further comprises about 0.1-60%, by weight, at least one inoculating agent selected from a group consisting of cerium, strontium, zirconium, calcium, manganese, barium, bismuth, magnesium, titanium and aluminum or from rare earths.

La présente invention se rapporte à un procédé permettant d'inoculer du fer fondu. Ledit procédé consiste à faire passer le fer fondu par un ensemble filtre à une vitesse d'approche comprise approximativement entre 1 et 60 cm/s. L'ensemble filtre comprend un élément filtrant et une boulette d'inoculation en contact avec l'élément filtrant. Ladite boulette présente un taux de dissolution dans un inoculant qui est d'au moins 1 mg/s et d'au plus 320 mg/s et elle contient environ 40 à 99,9 % en poids d'une charge contenant du ferrosilicium. La boulette comprend par ailleurs environ 0,1 à 60 % en poids d'au moins un agent d'inoculation sélectionné dans le groupe constitué par le cérium, le strontium, le zirconium, le calcium, le manganèse, le baryum, le bismuth, le magnésium, le titanium et l'aluminium ou sélectionné parmi des éléments des terres rares.
