The inorganic foam body consists of an at least partially open-cell foam formed by thermally foaming and hardening a mixture comprising an alkali water glass and a filler from the group of aluminium oxide, silicon dioxide, aluminous cement, crushed rocks, graphite or mixtures thereof. It is produced by heating a mixture comprising an alkali water glass and a filler from the group of aluminium oxide, silicon dioxide, aluminous cement, crushed rocks, graphite with a blowir.g agent, and preferably azodicarbonamide, at temperatures of at least 180 °C, and preferably of from 200 °C to 300 °C. The foam body has a bulk density within the range of from 50 to 500 kg/m3, and preferably of from 50 to 400 kg/m3.
