Particulate catalyst supports having a volatile water content from 6 to 30 weight % are suitable as supports for alumoxane activators, single site transition metal catalysts and activated catalysts comprising both alumoxane and a single site transition metal catalyst. Surprisingly, the support does not deactivate either the catalyst or the alumoxane but rather enhances activity of the catalyst.
