ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An inorganic/organic separator material, capable of relatively long cycle life in deep discharge conditions in secondary alkaline systems, particularly when used with other separator materials, is provided which comprises micrometer-sized particles of an inorganic material such as titanium dioxide dispersed in a matrix of an organic polymer such as a styrene-butadiene polymer. In a preferred embodiment, two types of inorganic particles are utilized, one being leachable in the alkaline electrolyte used and the other being non-leachable.
