Valienamine, valiolamine and their N-substituted derivatives have an inhibitory activity against .alpha.-glucosidase and are useful as prophylactic or therapeutic agents of hyperglycemic symptoms in man and other animals and various disorders caused by hyperglycemia such as diabetes, obesity, hyperlipemia, etc.
