Provided are novel bacteria belonging to the species Photorhabdus luminescens which possess insecticidal activity which is not dependent on these bacteria being carried by a nematode infection vector. Live or inactivated P. luminescens cells, as well as fragments of such cells and supernatants of culture of insecticidal P. luminescens bacteria, are used in accordance with the invention as insecticidal agents for the treatment of insect infestation of plants.

Nouvelles bactéries de l'espèce Photorhabdus luminescens présentant une activité insecticide, que ces bactéries soient ou non portées par un vecteur de nématodose. Les cellules vivantes ou inactivées de P. luminescens ainsi que des fragments de ces cellules et les surnageants d'une culture de bactéries P. luminescens insecticides sont utilisables comme agents insecticides dans le traitement de l'infestation de cultures par des insectes.
