ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Compounds of the formula Image where X is cyano, nitro, chlorine, bromine, fluorine or certain halogenated substituents; Y is hydrogen, chlorine, bromine, fluorine, alkyl or certain halogenated substituents; R1 and R2 are each hydrogen, chlorine, bromine, fluorine or trifluoromethyl; R3 is hydrogen, chlorine, bromine, fluorine, trifluoro- methyl of nitro; and Z and Q are each hydrogen, chlorine, bromine or fluorine; with certain provisos, are useful for controlling insects or arachnids. Agriculturally suitable salts of the above compounds, especially lithium, potassium and sodium salts may also be used. A preferred compound is 1,5-bis(4-trifluoromethylphenyl)-3- formazancarbonitrile.
