A method and apparatus assisting safe one-handed insertion of an implant (330, 900). An implant implantation device (100) has a frame (110) which includes a trigger mechanism ((120), an outer sleeve (130) mechanically coupled to the frame (110), an inner shaft (140) having a grabber (160) for mechanically engaging an implant (330, 900), the inner shaft (140) slidably disposed within the outer sleeve (130), and a retaining means (163, 175, 150) for directing the grabber (160) toward a closed position. An implant (300) clip has a first member (306), a second member (308) pivotally coupled to the first member (306), a first implant holder (318) pivotally coupled to the first member (306), the coupling causing the implant clip (300) to have a closed position and an open position, and a second implant holder (318), the second implant holder (318) pivotally coupled to the second member (308), a surface of the first implant holder (312) and a surface of the second implant holder (318) remaining substantially parallel to each other while the first member (306) and the second member (308) pivot between the closed position and the open position.
