The invention relates to an insertion device for an infusion set (12). The insertion device has retention means (6, 7), with which the infusion set (12) can be temporarily held on the device, and drive means (8, 9) with a pretensionable spring (8) for providing the drive energy for the insertion movement of the infusion set (12). The device is designed in such a way that the infusion set (12) can be secured on the retention means (6, 7) by clamping, when the latter are in an engage position, and can then be moved by means of the retention means (6, 7), with simultaneous pretensioning of the spring (8), to a position that forms the starting point for its insertion movement. The device is also designed in such a way that the infusion set (12) is already separated from the retention means (6, 7) at the start of the insertion movement, such that it can execute the greatest part of the insertion movement free of the retention means (6, 7). The invention permits the provision of insertion devices for insertion heads (12) which prevent irritation of the puncture site upon release of the head (12) from the device, and which at the same time are much easier to handle than the insertion devices of this type known today.
