To hold a boat to a dock, a cleat is used. This cleat is fastened to the dock with a fastening device to be described. The cleats have a 'T' shaped upper where the rode (rope) can be tied. How the cleat is fastened is by passing a 'T' bar through the dock (the bolt) and turning the upper (the nut) to tighten the cleat into place. This cleat has the advantage of being 'portable' or 'permanent' depending on the user. Being adaptable for spring lines and used by the smallest canoe to the largest power boat.
