- 1 - Abstract: The present invention relates to an installation for separating the constituents of a suspension such as sludges in hydrocarbon storage tanks. The installation includes a centrifugal separator and a self-cleaning filter located upstream of the separator. The filter includes an envelope having an inlet for the suspension and an outlet for sediments. A filter surface is provided which is connected to the inner surface of the envelope so as to form a chamber with the envelope for the filtrate. The envelope is provided with an outlet communicating with the chamber for the filtrate. A brush unit is provided in rotating contact with the filter for continuously cleaning the surface of the filter. A heater is connected in a line connecting the filtrate outlet of the filter with the separator. The filter, heater and separator are mounted on a vehicle. A boiler is mounted on a separate vehicle and generates steam which is fed to the heater.
