12 ABSTRACT An installation (1) for ballasting and tamping a track is provided with a machine frame (3) supported on on-track undercarriages (2) and having a tamping unit (8) and a lifting and lining unit (14), and a ballast store (26) provided with outlet openings (28), with which a vertically adjustable sweeping device (30) is associated for transferring ballast on to a conveyor means (34) having a discharge end (36) over the ballast store (26). The machine frame (3) is composed of a first and a second frame part (6, 7), the ballast store (26) with the outlet openings (28) and the sweeping device (30) being arranged on the rear, second frame part (7), in the operating direction, and the tamping unit (8) along with the lifting and lining unit (14) being arranged on the front, first frame part (6).
