INSTALLATION SYSTEM FOR BRIDGE GIRDERS ABSTRACT A system for installing precast concrete bridge girders is disclosed in which there is provided a guide track having a pair of spaced track elements on top of which two lifting gantries can run. The track is moved to a position spanning the intended bridge area above the constructed bridge abutments. A bridge girder is backed into position bridge abutments. A bridge girder is backed into position between the track elements and lifted by one of the gantries and then pushed across the area to be spanned by the transportation vehicle and the gantry. A forward end of the girder is then lifted by the second gantry and moved into position. With the ends of the girder above the abutments and carried by the gantries, the gantries can be lowered to move the girder downwardly onto the abutments. This avoids the expensive use of heavy cranes.
