A universally installable climate control system for aftermarket installation in a motor vehicle which includes a heater valve (26) which is controlled by the system (12) and is connected in the supply line to the heater core of the originally installed heater/air conditioner (20). Additionally, a closed loop climate control system is employed which renders the system transparent to the type of motor vehicle in which it is installed, since the closed loop system ensures that a desired passenger compartment temperature is achieved substantially independent of the operating characteristics of the motor vehicle.
