ABSTRACT A process for preparing a polymeric material by heating a mixture of asphalt and castor oil to a temperature of about 145°C. to about 155°C. and maintaining beyond about one hour, the heated mixture being under an atmosphere of about 5 to 10 psi above normal atmospheric pressure. The product is useful as an intermediate in the manufacture of a polymeric foam.
