ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Instrument for the visual detection of authenticity features in banknotes and security documents with an electric illumination device for the illumination of the test object characterised by the following features: the instrument as a whole has an elongated rod like shape; the frontal section of the rod shaped instrument has a lower part, which protects forward like a finger and connects to its rear section with a diffusion screen which can be illuminated by means of an illumination device and an upper part which also projects forward like a finger and connects to the upper part which is attached to its rear section with an optical element arranged above the diffusion screen; the lower part and the upper part of the frontal section of the instrument between them form a test slit for holding the test object.
